Future of “Naturals” (V2)

Natural

Where It Fits & Where It Doesn't

This is a tough question for me. Of course, I want to say that Natural should be everywhere but that's not always true.

For example, let's say I have Strep Throat. You could show me all the charts and stories about how a Natural supplement or treatment helped cure someone's Strep, and that's all in good, but I'm going to stick with the antibiotics. Now that's not to say that I don't think the other options won't help with the healing process but I'm going to go for the thing engineered to kill the infection 90% of the time.

Now where I do think Natural fits the best is with things like hair products, cold remedies, topical skin items, vitamins. Things where the added chemicals have the potential to be harmful or addictive in some sense. Where a natural alternative has the same benefits but with none of the harmful side effects.

What Keeps From Going All Natural

My Personal Truth

Really the only barrier I have from going all natural is the lack of information on the products themselves. Some products act as placebos, some have some rare item (like a plant) I've never heard of or sometimes even believe exists. It's finding out the validity of the product. The proven test results that it works and isn't just a cheap ploy to sell some back stock of an item this company has. I think some of the things that can help with this is proper information written on the product and the product's website. Write-ups about the product on reputable sites or magazines. A way to easily look up and calm any concerns I may have about the product, and what I want my intended use to be. If the product has several uses, I need to know if it really is the best choice for the one thing I need it for.

Companies

Bayer

The products made by this company are pretty universal in home health. Such as Asprin. Depending on what you're looking for there are a lot of natural supplements that could each help with a symptom that Asprin also helps with. But why search and trial and error when you can get it all in one pill?

Johnson & Johnson

So here's a company I think would make great all natural products. My knowledge of Johnson and Johnson is that they make family care products aimed at the parents of young children. So knowing what your giving them doesn't have any harmful or possibly addictive added chemicals is definitely a mind easer.

Pfizer

The few things I know about Pfizer is that they make Viagra and Zoloft. Two products with a TON of negative side effects. Could they make all natural versions of these products, sure. Would they work? Debatable. But having the option of trying something that won't kill or addict you would be nice.

Products

Ones That Work Just Fine

  • Advil
  • Tylenol
  • For both of these products, the same as I mentioned for Aprin above. They cover a multitude of symptoms. So I know if I have multiple needs, I have them all in one pill.

    Ones That Could Go Natural

  • Claritin
  • Aleve
  • Centrum
  • Robitussin
  • All of these products have the same issues in my book. They can leave you drowsy. Have addictive substances mixed in, and already have natural alternatives. I think if these companies also offered a natural brand for these products customers would appreciate being given the option of choosing which they feel is right.

    My Impression

I like the thought of all of these products. Especially Dampo Throat Soother for being licorice flavored. I also enjoyed the fact that they were all drug-free. However, some of the ingredients in Euphytose Stress Support, Euphytose Night, and Phytodolor Pain Soother I've either never heard of or seem like they may be a placebo.

Even if I heard they were being sold in a different country I don't think it would change these views. Some countries still believe snorting rhino horn can be used as a male enhancement, or that snake venom makes you live longer. Obviously, these are extremes, but I like to pay more attention to hard facts rather than just where it may be popular.

Now, if I were to hear that these products were being made by main medical brands like Pfizer or Bayer, that actually might change my opinion of them. These companies, I would hope, would have the money to run extensive research on the products before releasing them to the public. Also, they would be easy to research online and find the proven testimony of their use.

    Replies to Comments

Blogger won't allow me to reply to comments no matter what I do, and they won't help you fix the issue ((their HTML code)). So I will be replying to comments here instead.

Hi William. I'm reviewing your final blog, and I just noticed you're putting your responses to my questions in the main blog. Good that you've answered them. However, for this final blog, can you add your comments right back in the comments section here (just hit reply). - I'd like to look at some other categories of 'naturals' - cold, allergy, nasal, cough, digestive, pain relief. which categories are most appropriate here and which are least? Why? - With the new products, can you blog a bit about the names? Also, which one(s) are most interesting to you? Less interesting? Why? - Can you address these products made by Bayer separately from Pfizer? Or, if they are both the same, does it matter what company produces 'naturals'?

    Great Questions!
To start off, no I can't reply to the comments. After lengthy research, this is actually a huge problem with Blogger for most users. I tried all the workarounds and setting fixes that I could find from googling the problem, but it hasn't fixed it at all. So I will be replying here. Sorry.
To answer your first question; I feel allergies, nasal, cough, and digestive should fit into the natural products. I've tried remedies for all three and the natural alternative usual works just as well as the conventional, minus the addictive chemicals. Especial with Nasal products. Things Like pain relief and colds, depending on severity, usually need something stronger than any natural product I've seen on the market.
To answer the last question, it makes no diference to me I hadn't even known of those company names till I did this blog and researched those items. So sometimes brand name means more than company name I guess.
